FileMaker and Java Licensing with Oracle

July 25, 2019

As of February 2019, Oracle changed their licensing model to now require paid licenses in order to use Java in business and production capacities. The Java update started prompting people concerning this in April 2019. In the long term, FileMaker is getting rid of Java, but for now, FileMaker uses Java in three areas:

FileMaker 16 and earlier admin console; FileMaker 17 and newer do not require it
Custom Web Publishing (CWP)

Building a Super Slick Search UI

July 22, 2019

So, what does FileMaker offer in the way of searching? Well there is find mode obviously. Great power, but perhaps a little unintuitive for the average user, especially in this day of age where websites provide pretty commonplace design patterns for searching. Quickfind is a much nicer alternative, combining an automated ‘find mode’ search of sorts, with a single search box making it easier for users to search.

Opening the correct version of FileMaker Pro with FMP URLs on macOS

May 21, 2019

If you don’t need multiple versions of FileMaker installed on your computer, we recommend uninstalling the old version(s) when you install a new new major version. But there maybe reasons to have more than one version installed. If you are a developer, you may need to support multiple versions for different clients, for example. If you do have multiple versions of FIleMaker Pro [Advanced] installed on your computer, you may notice that fmp URLs (links that start with fmp://… that open a FileMaker Pro custom app, and optionally perform a script) do not open in the version that you are expecting. You may ask yourself, “How did I get here?” …and you might not even be listening to the Talking Heads.

Connect FileMaker to Cloud Storage with fmFlare

May 21, 2019

You’re also risking database corruption in transferring such a large file. What’s the best way to fix this? You can use externally stored container fields. That solves part of the problem of getting the actual file out of the main database file…but it is still time consuming to backup and transfer.

You can also get powerful email analytics of bounce, open, and click-through rates that can indicate if there are any serious email delivery issues. These email sending services are designed to help digital marketers and application developers send marketing, notification, and other transactional emails. They are reliable, cost-effective services for businesses of all sizes that use email to keep in contact with their customers.
